Again, the ideal range that one's blood sugar should be at is between 70-180.
What actually is a high blood sugar? The scientific term is Hyperglycemia.
This occurs when there is too much glucose (sugar) in the blood.
When my blood sugar is around 190, I start to feel a lil funky. I kinda have the same effects as I do when I am low but without being shaky. I become lightheaded. I feel really hot. I can't focus. I am VERY irritable. I become really tired. I feel as if I could faint at any moment. Again... anything and everything that is going on makes me overwhelmed. (I can get irritated really easily) :)
There are many things I can do to fix my high blood sugar:
1. Insulin!!! To bring down a high blood sugar the very first thing to do would be to give insulin. Either by injection or by an insulin pump.
2. Exercise. Another way to bring down a high blood sugar would be to exercise. Being active helps bring blood sugars down (whether you need them to...or not.) by converting the sugar into energy!
3. Sleep. Sleeping is also a way to bring down a high blood sugar. It can also raise your blood sugar...but we won't get into that just yet ;). Basically, glucose (sugar) makes blood sugar levels go up. When we sleep, we don't have new glucose coming in. Because of this, our body uses the other stored glucose from other organs (like the liver and fats) to keep us steady while we sleep. Our body starts using the glucose we have more sparingly thereby keeping our blood sugar levels lower.
note: this will not bring down blood sugars as much if you eat before you sleep!
Other note: There are probably more ways to lower blood sugar levels, but I cannot think of any more at the moment. :b
When dealing with a high blood sugar it is very serious, just like a low blood sugar. Having a really high blood sugar is what causes keto acidosis. (see episode two for more details). If not treated as soon as possible, I could pass out and need to go to the hospital.
